JD_Cat_Dog_PresidentCat or Dog for President is a picture book that puts the Presidential Race into relatable terms for children.

This book was sent free from the author with a request for review. Having never reviewed a picture book before, I wasn’t sure of how to proceed, but on reading the book, find that there’s a lot to talk about.

Starting with the illustrations, they were phenomenal. Colorful and busy, the child will see something new each time the book is read. I would suggest Cat or Dog for President for any preschool reading circle. The well-drawn cat and dog will capture the attention of the children—and the imagination of those who have pets.

The story line was extremely well done. Any adult reading the book will recognize a deeper meaning behind the story and within the two candidates. For a child reading the book, they’ll get an idea of an election from campaigning to vote. My favorite part of the book was the mudslinging cat. Mudslinging was within the character of the cat, but also relatable to local election campaigns.

This picture book is simple and fun and has a message that I know I’d like to share with my news feed—we need to all work together to get ahead. Thank goodness cat and dog realized that before things got really ugly!

Cat or Dog for President is a wonderful book for children ages 0 until the child starts learning about the political process in school. The book is also a great addition to any school library collection.
